I Might Be Wrong (not to be confused with the awesome Radiohead song) are an indie-rock group from Berlin. Their song "We Don't Wear Colours" was on an indie mix I'm currently listening to and the female lead vocals caught my ears. Their last album entitled It Tends To Flow From High to Low was released in 2007 and it sounds like another is in the works. I've been a huge fan of Emiliana Torrini for some time, but I just can't seem to get enough of her newest album, Me And Armini. This Icelandic singer-songwriter has a large fan base across the world. Her last album, Fisherman's Woman, was on my playlist a ton in 2005, but this new album may have passed it as my new favorite. Her gorgeous and soft voice is whimsical, and will grab you from the start. You also may have heard her music featured all over the place on Grey's Anatomy, and while I think the show sucks these days, I have to give them credit for their great musical choices. Anyone who enjoys a beautiful girl who sings gorgeous melodies needs to give this woman a listen, you will fall in love.

just discovered a lovely little track by Robert Francis called Little Girl. After rummaging through the internet, turns out he's a pretty popular guy. Hailing from California, Robert is a singer-songwriter with a little bit of country, and a gorgeous voice to boot. His newest album, One By One, which is on Aeronaut Records, has gotten some pretty great reviews.

One reviewer said: "An incredibly gifted musician, who counts the drums, banjo, bass, piano, mandolin and guitar all as weapons of choice, he focuses more on traversing the minutiae of day-to-day life than on trying to change the world. Heartbreak finds its way into the bulk of the songs, but it's never precious to the point of nausea, which can't be said for most artists his age. As first efforts go, there's not much more you can ask for. Keep an eye on this kid."

Bon Iver had one hell of a year in 2008, topping best of lists across the internet and magazines. As 2009 has crept upon us, he is already back with a few new tunes for everyone to obsess over, again. His new EP, Blood Bank, is a 4 track treat. Not sure when he will be releasing a full LP, but this is a great way to start the new year.

Better late than never, right? I'd have to say yes about Blind Pilot. While their album was released in August, I'm just taking a listen now. This folk duo from Portland put out a beautiful album entitled 3 Rounds and A Sound. While fairly simplistic, it just works. Kind of reminds me of Neutral Milk Hotel, a little. Either way, it's simply lovely. 'Oviedo' had me addicted from the first listen.

I've been a fan of Greg Laswell for some time now, but he has just released his newest CD Three Flights from Alto Nido, and I must say...it's quite beautiful. Although he's been compared to the likes of Jeff Buckley and Ron Sexsmith, I think he's a little different than those guys. Anyhow, this is a beautiful and relaxing CD that caught me from the first track. He has one hell of a soothing voice.

Laura Marling is another young fresh singer-songwriter from the UK. The 17 year old has a beautiful voice, reminiscent of a softer Fiona Apple. Her new album entitled Alas I Cannot Swim showcases her soft and sweet vocals along with some clever lyrics. It's amazing such a young artist has the ability to craft such mature music. Look out for this one.

Rufus Wainwright has been a favorite of mine for years, and his new video for "Going To A Town" has just been put on YouTube. It is from his upcoming album Release The Stars which will be out May 15th. This man has one beautiful voice...can't wait to hear the rest of the CD.

One of my absolute favorites, Magnet, has just released his 3rd album entitled The Simple Life in Norway this week! The man behind Magnet is Even Johansen, an amazing and humble musician. His previous 2 CDs have been constant rotation since I discovered him back in 2004. Even's gorgeous and soft voice combined with a little rock and some electronic beats make fantastic and catchy melodies. While I enjoyed his previous 2 albums a little better, I'm always going to love everything Magnet puts out, he's a favorite forever.

Lisa Hannigan is best know for playing with the amazing Damien Rice, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon a beautiful video of her performing 4 solo songs, and wow...how I love this woman. She has one of the most gorgeous voices out there today. She makes it look so simple too....lucky girl. Someone was nice enough to capture the songs into mp3s, so you here you are...drool away.

William Fitzsimmons is an amazing new artist I was lucky enough to stumble upon. While his beard might be a bit intimidating at first, don't be scared...his beautiful voice will bring you back. I fell in love with his soft voice right away, mixed with acoustic guitars and even some electronic beats. I promise you won't be disappointed with this guy, really great stuff.

fitzsimmons' writing is utterly personal, usually electing subject matter that would most often only be heard in the confides of a family therapy session. the effect, however, causes the listener to draw closer, rather than farther away, from the gentle melodies which exhume affectivity and remind us that our lives are filled with both joy and suffering, and that it can be a lovely place to find the two sharing a sometimes amicable living space.

Anais Mitchell released her first album in 2002, but is now signed under Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe Records. Her newest CD entitled The Brightness shows her abilities as a newly established folk artist with a unique voice, that perhaps not everyone will come to enjoy. Some songs are stronger than others on the album, but overall it's enjoyable journey of emotions expressed through music.

If you haven't heard any of Beth Orton's music, you really need to get on it. Everything she has put out I have enjoyed a great deal, but her 2006 release Comfort of Strangers is her absolute best release to date. This CD is full of Beth's incredibly beautiful voice and gorgeous melodies. There isn't a track on it that I don't love. This puppy is defintely making a spot on my Top Ten CDs of 2006. (Which I keep talking about and haven't exactly had time to work on just yet, sadly).

There are so many great artists over the last few years to come out with some new modernized folk, and Beth is one who has joined the ranks. This CD is fantastic.


This album could be seen as a fresh start for Beth Orton, and she makes the most of it: As artlessly lovely as a spring day, this is some of her simplest work, and simply some of her best, too.

Wow. I just found out about Piers Faccini today and I'm already in love. Piers is a frenchman who is the newest member of the Everloving Records family (home to Jack Johnson and Joseph Arthur).


This guy has one hell of a voice, that's for sure. His CD Tearing Sky just came out this week in the US and has everything from folk to blues and matched with his gorgeous voice, it comes together as some beautiful music. Apparently he is currently on tour overseas but hopefully he will be coming to the states soon. I am gonna have to catch this guy before he gets big. This is a great CD to pop in on a lazy rainy Saturday afternoon.

Nick Drake is music at its absolute finest. This man has put out some of the most beautiful folk music ever. I only wish I was alive to see this man live, I can't even imagine how amazing it would have been. Sadly, he passed away in 1974 from an overdose of antidepressants, but his music lives on forever. Many people might remember his song Pink Moon being played in the VW Cabrio ad in the late 90's . Every single one of his CD's has gotten perfect reviews, but my personal favorite is "Pink Moon." Every track is folk at its best. We miss you Nick.

Oh look, another fantastic group I discovered from Greys Anatomy, what a surprise! But yes, I first heard The Weepies track The World Spins Madly On at the end of an episode in Season One and was on a mission to find out who it was from the minute I heard it. Thankfully, it wasn't too hard to find. Their newest CD Say I Am To You has become a hit everywhere it feels like, and rightfully so. They are a folk-pop duo composed of Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, both of which have also put out solo CDs...but I think they have done their best work together.

Their songs are simple and filled with beautiful harmonies...and although their band name may sound sad, their music is nothing but smiles.

Glen Hansard is the lead singer for the Irish band, The Frames (who I will post about very soon since their new CD is fantastic).

Glen decided to team up with Marketa Irglova and together they created the amazingly beautiful "The Swell Season." At first listen, this CD reminded me a lot of Damien Rice's "O", but while they are similar, The Swell Season is a unique and an incredible work of music.

This CD is extremely delicate and acoustic and probably a great one to fall asleep too. While fairly sad and mellow in its nature, you can't ignore how absolutely gorgeous it is. Glen's voice mixed with soft pianos, Marketa's cello playing, and haunting melody's make for a near perfect album.

An absolute must have for fan's of Damien Rice and Nick Drake. Simply superb.

Foy Vance is another artist I found from the wonderful Grey's Anatomy. (I need to give a hug to their music supervisor). Seems a lot of people enjoyed his song "Homebird" after being played on the show because I saw requests for it all over the internet after the episode.

I finally got my hands on it, and it's definitely a keeper. Simple, acoustic, and souful. It can be found on his new EP, Watermelon Oranges , which sadly only has 5 tracks. We can only hope he puts out an LP very soon.
